CLINTON STREET RENOVATION : BROOKLYN NY
530 SF : DESIGNED & BUILT WITH JERROD KOWALEWSKI

THIS CO-OP APARTMENT IS LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF A 6-STORY BUILDING, BUILT IN 1926. THE APARTMENT WAS A COMPLETE GUT RENOVATION. ALL OF THE WORK WAS SELF-PERFORMED, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE DEMOLITION, ELECTRICAL, AND SKIM-COATING THE NEW SHEETROCK WALLS. THERE WERE THREE OBJECTIVES IN THIS PROJECT: OPEN UP THE FLOOR PLAN, INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF DAYLIGHT, AND MAXIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF STORAGE. THE FIRST TWO OBJECTIVES WERE MET BY REMOVING THE WALLS BETWEEN THE ENTRY, KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM; KEEPING THE DESIGN OF THE SPACE MINIMAL AND CLEAN; AND PAINTING ALL OF THE SURFACES VARYING SHADES OF WHITE. THE LAST OBJECTIVE WAS MET IN MANY WAYS THROUGHOUT THE APARTMENT. THE GALLEY KITCHEN IS ONLY 50 SF, YET IT HAS 87 CF OF STORAGE. THIS WAS ACHIEVED BY DOUBLE-STACKING THE UPPER CABINETS. IN THE BATHROOM, A CUSTOM RECESSED MEDICINE CABINET WAS BUILT WITHIN THE DEEP PLUMBING WALL. CLOSETS WERE ADDED AT THE ENTRY FOYER AND ALONG THE WEST WALL IN THE BEDROOM AND TO MAXIMIZE ACCESSIBLE STORAGE, FULL-HEIGHT DOORS WERE INSTALLED ON ALL OF THEM. ALSO, A SLIDING DOOR WAS INSTALLED IN THE BEDROOM TO PRESERVE THE FLOOR AREA, MAKING ROOM FOR A KING-SIZED BED.
