STRONG PLACE RENOVATION : BROOKLYN NY
2,885 SF : WITH BAXT INGUI ARCHITECTS

THIS TOWNHOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1901.   IT WAS CONVERTED FROM A TWO-FAMILY DWELLING INTO A SINGLE-FAMILY DWELLING. THE EXISTING EXTENSION OFF THE REAR OF THE HOUSE WAS DEMOLISHED AND A NEW  DOUBLE-HEIGHT ADDITION WAS ERECTED THAT SPANNED ACROSS THE ENTIRE FACADE. THIS NEW ADDITION  IS A  MODERN INSERTION INTO A TRADITIONAL HOUSE.  IT INCORPORATES A  TWO-STORY GLASS  FACADE WITH A MODERN STEEL  AND WOOD STAIR THAT CURVES FROM THE  MAIN FLOOR OF THE HOUSE TO THE GROUND FLOOR. A SWEDISH STOVE, WHICH IS A SECONDARY FOCAL POINT TO THE STAIR, WAS ALSO INSTALLED IN THE NEW ADDITION. THE GROUND FLOOR WAS THE SECOND DWELLING UNIT WITHIN THE HOUSE.  THIS FLOOR WAS COMPLETELY GUTTED TO  ALLOW FOR THE RELOCATION OF THE KITCHEN FROM THE FIRST FLOOR. THE MODERN AESTHETIC OF THE ADDITION AND THE NEW KITCHEN TIE INTO THE TRADITIONAL NATURE OF THE REST OF THE HOUSE.  THE UPPER FLOORS OF THE HOUSE WERE REFURBISHED WITH NEW MILLWORK PIECES, A RENOVATED BATHROOM,  AND A NEW MECHANICAL SYSTEM THROUGHOUT. THE SECOND FLOOR BALCONY AND THE REAR YARD WERE  ALSO RENOVATED  WITH NEW PAVERS, RAILINGS, FENCING, AND LANDSCAPING.
